Just before dawn, the Lincoln Memorial glows through the fog. It’s unusually white marble — brought to DC from quarries in Colorado.

I handheld this shot as a sort of sketch while setting up to take some more formal, tripod-mounted, front-and-center photos of the Memorial. Even though it’s grainier than the low-ISO photos I made a few minutes later, it’s one of my favorites from that morning. Maybe it catches the feeling of the cold, grey, pre-dawn mist.
